INFORMATION FOR INTERNATIONAL PATIENTS

Dr. Anand Jadhav regularly treats overseas patients who travel to Pune for specialised treatments for their orthopaedic problems. These problems could be due to joint arthritis, sports injuries, accidents or injuries arising due to firearms or explosives in certain war-torn countries. He has treated patients from the USA, the UK, Europe, Middle East, Africa and Australia. Dr Jadhav and the staff of his affiliated hospitals are always ready to help international patients arriving in Pune. The following information will be useful for overseas patients who wish to get their treatments done in Pune under Dr Jadhav.

TAKING THE FIRST STEPS:
Seeking a second opinion, understanding diagnosis and treatment options
  • International patients are initially encouraged to share detailed history of their orthopaedic problems, any investigations done, treatments taken so far and its result or effectiveness. They are also asked to complete a detailed questionnaire about their medical health, regular medications, any known allergies and any past surgeries for any reasons.
  • Patient’s medical records, investigation films & reports, blood reports, clinical pictures and clinical videos can be shared with Dr Jadhav via email, Whatsapp or video conferencing.
  • After going through all above papers, photos and videos, Dr Jadhav will make a diagnosis, explain treatment plans to the patient and suggest steps to proceed further. Based on these treatment plans, the international patients may have to complete additional investigations either in their own country or in Pune after their arrival. Patients are provided with an estimate for covering the entire expenses of their treatment.
  • Dr Jadhav will recommend appropriate hospitals to his overseas patients based on their orthopaedic problems, the treatment required, patient’s budget, their travel plans and number of people accompanying the patient.
  • He will normally recommend hospitals having excellent infra-structure where all advanced treatments can be provided whilst following internationally accepted treatment protocols.
  • After understanding their diagnosis and treatment plans, international patients may decide to travel to Pune for their definitive treatment. They need to plan well and complete formalities for their travel plans. These patients must be medically fit for travelling to India. Local doctor’s letter to this effect is also necessary.
  • If patients have any queries about any aspect of their treatment or its costs involved, then these are promptly resolved by Dr Jadhav and his team members.
  • Once the patient confirms their plans of visiting Pune for their definitive treatment, then Dr Jadhav will confirm a suitable date and time slot for the same. This planning is done in mutual understanding with the patient and Dr Jadhav’s availability & work schedule.
  • Patients are sent appropriate papers for getting a medical visa, from their local Indian embassy, that would enable them to travel to India for their treatment.
  • A formal letter is prepared by Dr Jadhav and highlights concerned patient’s details, his passport number, his orthopaedic diagnosis & planned treatment, duration of stay needed in India and the costs involved for surgery and post-surgery rehabilitation. These documents are sent to patients by post, email or by Whatsapp.
  • Overseas patients are asked to carry all their previous and recent medical and orthopaedic consultation papers, investigation reports, X-rays / MRI / Ct scan films and reports when coming to Pune. Any referral letters from patient’s local doctors are also helpful.
  • Patients may be required to pay some advance deposit to confirm their surgery as per the chosen hospital policies. These payment instructions will be conveyed to patient well in advance. Advanced Payments can be made with debit cards, credit cards and online money transfers.
  • If patients are having a health insurance policy from their home country, then we will apply in advance for pre-authorisation for cashless treatment. Our Mediclaim department team will help our international patients in this regard. If cashless treatment cannot be processed for any reason, then patients will need to pay for their treatment first and then apply for reimbursement of their medical expenses after returning to their home country. We will provide all relevant documents for their re-imbursement process.

INFORMATION NEEDED FROM PATIENTS
  • We need to know entire travel plans of international patients, their date of arrival in India, their flight details, and the number of people travelling. The full name of patient, his accompanying persons and the passport details of all travellers is a must. These details are needed for issuing certificate for travelling.
  • Any dietary preferences of all travellers should be informed in advance so that these requirements can be fulfilled by our dieticians and the catering teams. We aim to provide our overseas patients nutritious meals based on their heath status and cultural values.
  • We also need to know how long the patient and his visitors would stay in Pune.
  • If there is need for extended stay in India, beyond the stipulated hospital stay in Pune, then our hospital team will help in arranging appropriate hotels, paying guests houses or service apartments for the international patients and their accompanying persons.
  • If any sightseeing or travelling is to be arranged, then these matters are also dealt with by our dedicated team members.
  • If there is any need for a translator for better communication with the patient or his accompanying persons, we can arrange this as well.
  • If any currency exchange is needed, then this facility can also be arranged within the hospital premises for safety reasons.
  • Patients can also avail the facility of transferring money, in advance, into hospital accounts to pay for all their hospital bills as per the initial estimate generated. In such a scenario, all receipts are provided to the patient immediately. Payments can be made with cash, debit cards, credit cards and online money transfers.
  • Patient is also informed that should he exceed his pre-planned stay in the hospital or his final bill amount exceeds the initial estimate, for any reason, then he needs to pay the difference or the top up amount above the initial estimate.

INDIAN AIRPORTS IMMIGRATION FORMALITIES & AIRPORT PICKUPS
  • Patients are sent instructions about the immigration formalities to be completed at Indian airports, their airport pick up vehicle and their travel plans to the selected hospital. Contact details and the photo identity of the person picking up international patients are also shared with patients well in advance. This helps in easy identification of our welcoming team members who would be waiting outside the arrival terminal with a hospital placard having international patient’s name.
  • Mumbai’s Chatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport is the nearest airport for majority of our international patients. Few flights also fly directly into Pune, especially from the middle east and Singapore. Our team can help patients in planning their journey and suggesting flight bookings for a hassle-free experience. Airport pick-ups and drops get arranged as per patient’s travel plans.
  • Our welcoming team will receive our international patients at Mumbai Airport and bring them to the selected hospital in Pune in a pre-arranged spacious car.

FORMALITES & PROCEDURES AT THE HOSPITAL
  • On arrival at the hospital, patients have to complete the admission paperwork, pay the balance amount or make advance payment for their treatment and get settled in their chosen room.
  • Hospital staff will help patients complete any local Police Department formalities for registrations as an overseas patient.
  • Team of hospital doctors will visit the patient for taking their detailed medical history, reviewing their medical investigations & reports, performing any additional investigations as needed and giving fitness for surgery.
  • Dr Jadhav will also visit the patient, examine them, go through all their investigation reports and reconfirm the treatment plans. Consent for surgery is also taken in presence of Dr Jadhav.
  • All patient queries related to their treatment or stay in Pune are sorted out by the hospital team.
  • Patients posted for surgery are given necessary instructions about fasting prior to their surgery and the pre-surgery preparations needed.
  • Patients will follow a standard protocol after their planned surgery is completed. Our physiotherapy team will take post-op patients through all the necessary exercises which will ensure faster recovery.

ADDITIONAL INFO:
  • Normally 1 person is allowed to stay complimentary with the patient during their hospital stay. If there are more people accompanying the patient, then the others need to stay in paid accommodation close to the hospital. Alternately, if the patient desires, then they can get admitted in a suite room where 2 people can stay along with the patient. The billing estimate (charges for entire treatment) will rise proportionately, if a higher room category is selected.
  • Patients and their attendants are given complimentary access to the hospital Wi-fi network during their hospital stay.
  • Locker facilities are provided free of cost to the patients.
  • A special room for offering prayers is also available in most hospitals.
  • Patients are expected to use hospital clothes during their in-patient stay. Patient clothes and bedsheets are changed on a daily basis.
  • Paid laundry services are also available to the patient and his attendants.
  • Our team can also help the patient or his attendant in procuring local SIM cards for use with their mobile phones.
  • If the patient desires, then we can provide regular feedbacks about patient’s health status and progress to his family members or his referring doctor overseas. This is normally done via email or Whatsapp.
  • Dr Jadhav is happy to take calls from patient’s family members from overseas for updates at pre-arranged timings. Any such discussion happens only after written consent from the patient.

POST HOSPITAL DISCHARGE
  • Based on their type of surgery, the patient may fly out of India in 3 to 4 days, at the earliest.
  • For major surgeries, most patients need to be in hospital for 4 to 5 days. They can be discharged to other non-hospital accommodation for another 7 to 10 days. The choice of outside accommodation will depend upon each patient’s budget. If patient or his attendants wish to do local or nearby sightseeing, then this paid service can be arranged through our team.
  • Dr Jadhav prefers to see patients around 2 weeks after surgery to confirm surgical wound healing and assess patient’s recovery.
  • Patients can then fly out to their destination any time after this 15th post-op day Majority of patients are safely mobile and relatively pain free by this time. Airport drop services are arranged by our team.
  • Patients going back home are provided written instructions and explanations about their physiotherapy protocols, need of any medications and any special precautions to be followed. They are encouraged to be seen by their local doctors or physiotherapists, as soon as possible, to ensure best outcome for them. A copy of their discharge summary is also provided to them. With patient’s consent, these details are exchanged with their referring doctor from their home country.
  • Subsequent follow-ups can be arranged over video conferencing periodically for upto 3 to 6 months as needed.
  • Dr Jadhav recommends that his overseas patients stay in touch via email or Whatsapp. They are encouraged to share their clinical pictures, videos, X-rays images, blood reports etc to help keep a track of their recovery and progress.
  • Dr Jadhav and his team members are always happy to help other overseas patients referred by his previously treated and satisfied overseas patients.
